COVID-19 Update 3.22.2020

COVID-19 Update

Sunday, March 22, 2020

Dear Families,

We have missed you! Rather than gearing up for our first day back after spring break, we find ourselves in an unexpected and unprecedented situation. It may seem overwhelming to think that for the next few weeks, possibly longer, we will be practicing distance learning. What I want you to hear is that we are all in this together. Our teachers, school board, and parent organization are all working diligently to support you, our families. We are here and we are available for you.

The beauty of Montessori education is that it is based on real world lessons and practices. Practical life lessons are the foundation of the classroom. These life lessons cannot be underestimated. They are the foundation of our ability to be healthy, functioning beings. From a Montessori prospective, these days at home are right up our alley!

Although our teachers are providing weekly learning packets for each child, the packets are not intended to be checklists that must be completed within a certain time frame. That is not what we do in the classroom and it is certainly not what we want and expect at home. Although we have an abundance of resources to share with you all, we do not want to overwhelm.

If you have not heard from your lead teacher, please contact me. Teachers are experimenting with Zoom to record videos for their students.   You will be able to watch at a time that is convenient for you. Look for an invitation!

The Montessori community has come together in an amazing way to support one another through websites, webinars, and Facebook groups. Our Episcopal community has become a vital source of inspiration and encouragement as well.  While sitting casually on my sofa, I’ve participated in beautiful worship services hosted by friends on Facebook.  Artists and everyday people have shared their talents and creativity for all to enjoy.  Connectivity through virtual methods has proven much more meaningful than I imagined.

Please know that we are here for you. We are to support one another. We will continue to provide updates and inform families as we navigate our way forward.

God’s peace,
Summer Stough
Head of School
